Ophelia Griggs, EdD
Serves as a volunteer regional board member and advisory
committee member on the Alliance for Excellence committee and have held the
office as regional board secretary; locally served as the president and
secretary. Serves on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (DEI).
Appointed and serves on the Equity Alliance Response (EAR) committee. Serves on
Title IX committee as Hearing Panel. Serves on the Community Advisory Board
for TRIO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). Have served on the Threat Assessment
committee. Appointed and served on the Student Success Advisory committee.
Appointed and served as Chairperson for the 360degree Student Services
committee via The New Reality Task Force from spring semester, 2020 to fall semester,
2021. Assisted with examining SACS 3.4.10 narratives, year 2016 for SACS
policies and functions review. Served as Chairperson on the Interview Committee
and recently served on the Screening Committee (served once as chairperson). Served on
the P&E Committee (Planning and Evaluation committee).
Certificate of Achievement for successful completion of the
2013 Chancellor’s Developmental Education Institute. Accepted into the college
president’s Strategic Leadership Cabinet spring semester 2017 and completed
term. Inducted into the Martinsville and Henry County NSBE (National Society of Black Engineers) chapter as an honoree.
Written and published a book titled
The Angel Came in 2019. Conducted a research study titled “Examining Low
Student Retention Factors in Community Colleges” while a student at Capella
University pursuing a Doctor of Education with a specialization in leadership
and management degree (July 2016 research study in Capella University’s
repository/desires to turn it into a publication before considered as old material). Desires to write and publish
more books (current manuscript reviewed and accepted for book publishing, still in the works). Singing,
attending cultural activities, participating in church related activities, traveling,
creating inspirational (sometimes comical) videos for my over one thousand
followers on social media, and getting involve with interested community
activities (was an active member of Virginia Organizing, a non-profit
organization, Martinsville-Henry County chapter from 2012 - 2021/currently not
active but remains on the mailing and email lists).
One worked as
an Adjunct Instructor with P&HCC for three years. Last place of employment for 17 years was
Piedmont Community Services (provides services for mental health, substance abuse, and intellectual disability).
