1.0 NAME, MISSION, AND ORGANIZATION OF THE COLLEGE
1.1 Name of the College
The official name of the college is Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC).
1.2 Mission and Vision of the College
Mission: PHCC is a comprehensive community college committed to enriching the quality of life in its service region through academic excellence, student success, workforce development, community engagement, and lifelong learning.
Vision: Student success IS Patrick Henry Community College.
Values: PHCC values excellence, innovation, diversity, and continuous improvement. We demonstrate these values in the following ways:
Teaching and Learning. Teaching and learning are paramount at PHCC and simply the heart of everything we do.
Integrity and respect. Our people are our most valuable asset. To promote a culture of integrity and respect for students and employees, PHCC develops, nurtures, and sustains an engaged, diverse, and talented workforce.
Communication and Collaboration. We effectively communicate and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, we seek to foster relationships and build partnerships that enhance the success and quality of life of all constituents.
1.3 Approval and Accreditation
PHCC operates as part of the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and is governed by the State Board for Community Colleges. The associate degree curricula of the College are approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV). PHCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

1.2: Review of mission
The Policy and Accreditation Committee will conduct a review of the mission/statement of purpose on an as-needed basis to ensure applicability and relevancy to the students, college, and community. At the conclusion of the review, the committee will either approve the mission statement as-is or recommend a change to the mission statement. Should a change be recommended, a revised mission statement will then be sent to the following personnel:
-Faculty president (to garner approval from the faculty)
-Classified staff representative (to garner approval from the classified staff)
-Academic Vice President (to garner approval from the Administrative Council)
-President (to garner approval from the Executive Leadership Team)
If all groups approve, the President will notify the Chancellor of the amended mission statement, along with the local board.
Should additional modifications be recommended by any of the aforementioned groups, the Policy & Accreditation Committee will consider the revision(s) and send a final recommendation to the President for approval. Once approved, the President will notify the Chancellor of the amended mission statement, along with the local board.
