Program Review for Information Systems Technology

Program Review Framework & Criteria

I. Connection: From interest to application (Qualitative, program head and dean)

1) Please provide a description of any changes to the program since the last cycle and the appropriate updates to the catalog (general education changes, program requirement changes, ancillary program costs for students, hours/credits of credentials, etc.).

2) How do students find out about the program? Please provide examples of advising activities, marketing materials, or other outreach and engagement events designed to recruit students to the program.

The bulleted list below describes some of the advising activities, marketing materials, or other outreach and engagement events designed to recruit students to the program:

  • Marketing materials such as informational brochures have been prepared and are distributed at various events such as trade shows, high school students visiting and touring the PHCC campus, STEM Day and by the Dean at the Institute for Advanced Learning in Danville.
  • Outreach and engagement activities  include IT faculty participating in campus tours where high school visit various classrooms and instructors can highlight courses by providing interactive and engaging activities such as coding.  Campus tours are usually conducted twice a year with surrounding school divisions in our service region.
  • Faculty volunteer for SEED activities by visiting high schools in an effort to share IT pathways.
  • Examples of advising and outreach activities include faculty who teach courses entry level courses discussing career pathways as well as career studies certificates with their students.
  • Faculty participate in trade shows and opportunities to speak as classroom guest speakers

II. Entry: From application to pathway entry (Qualitative, program head and dean)

1) Please provide a description of your program credentials and how they stack into one another.

Questions for consideration:
1.a. What is the employability (or transferability) of each credential?

Response II 1a is included with Response II

1.b. Do all credits from a sub-credential transfer into the parent credential?

Response II 1b is included with Response II

1.c. What is the timeframe of completion for all credentials within the program (i.e. is the program setup to award sub-credentials prior to the parent credential)?

Response II 1c is included with Response II

2) Program enrollment, if applicable, disaggregated by specialization (Quantitative, IE)

The table below reflects annualized Headcount and FTE for IST and IST specializations.  The recommended SCHEV program ratio is 13:1.  It should be noted that, while no individual program met the SCHEV program ratio for 2017-18, IST and all specializations are reported together to SCHEV, thus exceeding the program ratio.

a. Annual program FTE and HC over the last review cycle (To include SCHEV program ratios and SCHEV class ratios)
